Registration for Career Fair, Job-A-Palooza open
HUNTINGTON -- Registration is now open for two of the Marshall University Career Service Center's biggest events. Prospective employers have a prime opportunity to meet potential employees during the annual fall Career Fair and Job-A-Palooza shows.
The Job-A-Palooza is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Memorial Student Center. The event aims to help students and members of the community find part-time jobs, seasonal employment and internships.
"A lot of companies come to the Job-A-Palooza looking ahead for the Christmas season or internships. We're really encouraging employers to think ahead. So maybe if they're planning on hiring an intern they may want to come ahead and talk to us about it. Seasonal part-time is always really good, including retail." Debby Stoler, assistant director of development and outreach at Career Services, explained. "Students who come don't have to dress up but they should bring resumes. Companies will sometimes let them apply right at the table. Employers should bring information about their job opportunities. For employers, registration for the event is free."
Employers looking for more information about the Job-A-Palooza event should email Jennifer Brown at email@example.com or call 304-696-3396.
The annual Fall Career Expo is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Memorial Student Center. This event allows employers to contact students, alumni, recent graduates and other members of the community. Prospective job hunters are encouraged to bring resumes and come dressed in business attire.
"We are probably going to have something between 90 and a hundred employers." Stoler said. "Guests should have a really polished copy of your resume and be really ready to network with these recruiters." Denise Hogsett, director of career services, also emphasized the importance of a good first impression.
"Even if a student is just researching, we recommend that they at least come in business casual dress. They shouldn't come in their backpacks, flip-flops and shorts. ... Because some of these companies may want to follow (up with) them," she said.
Registration for the expo is $175 for a table and up to two recruiters from now until Sept. 1. Employers looking to register should contact Stoler at Stolerd@marshall.edu or call 304-696-6679.
