Mar. 24, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- The Marshall University Opera Theatre will present Opera Gala '13, an afternoon of well-known arias, ensembles and choruses from the operatic repertoire at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 7, in Smith Recital Hall.

The event is free and open to the public.

Featured are favorites from "La Traviata," "Don Pasquale," "The Barber of Seville," "Die Fledermaus" and "The Peal Fishers."

The ensemble will also perform scenes from "The Medium" (Gian Carlo Menotti), "The Ballad of Baby Doe" (Douglas Moore), "Candide" (Leonard Bernstein), and arias from Peter Grimes in honor of British composer Benjamin Britten's 100th birthday celebration.

"I'm very pleased with the number of students involved in the Opera Theatre this spring," said Linda Dobbs of the Marshall Department of Music.
