HUNTINGTON -- The Marshall University Recreation Center will be hosting two outdoor pursuits trips this month.

The events are designed to give students, recreation center members and members of the community a chance to go on an exciting day trip at a discount rate. There's still time to register for the Adventures on the Gorge trip set for July 20 and a trip to watch the Cincinnati Reds take on the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 21.

On Saturday, July 20 there will be a trip to the New River Gorge where guests can choose between mountain biking on a 13-mile scenic tour of the gorge or riding along high speed Gravity Ziplines. The zip lines range from 500 to 3,100 feet in length and can go as fast as 60 miles an hour. The trip is $130 for members of the Recreation Center and $180 non-members. The registration deadline is Tuesday, July 16.

"The best thing about both actives is the scenic overviews for both the mountain bikes and zip lines," said Phil Snyder, assistant director of Aquatics and Outdoor Pursuits at the Marshall Recreation Center. "The cost of the trip covers both transportation and equipment rentals including helmets. You may want to bring some athletic gear, some sunscreen and choose between packing a lunch or buying a meal at the site."

On Sunday, July 21 there will be a trip to Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati to watch the Cincinnati Reds take on the Pittsburgh Pirates. Tickets for the event are $55 for members and $75 for non-members. The cost will include both transportation and a ballpark ticket. The registration deadline is July 17.

"The Reds and the Pirates are a great NL (National League) Central rivalry game," Snyder said.
