MU donations up for 2011-12

Marshall Foundation
Sep. 03, 2012 @ 11:50 PM

HUNTINGTON -- Giving to the Marshall University Foundation during the 2011-2012 fiscal year was up by $10.3 million from the previous year.

Gifts and pledges grew to $25.8 million last year, compared to $15.5 million during the 2010-2011 fiscal year, according to figures provided by the Foundation.

Officials point to the major fundraising campaign tied to the new academic and athletic facilities being built and renovated throughout campus and in other parts of the city of Huntington. Ron Area, the chief executive officer for the Marshall University Foundation, hopes to keep the momentum going this school year as construction starts on the soccer stadium and applied engineering complex.

"When we razed the (Veterans Memorial) Field House, people knew we were serious about soccer," he said. "When people start seeing progress, they get excited and want to be a part of it."
