More than 1,100 participate in 6th annual Marshall University Marathon

HUNTINGTON -- More than 1,100 runners participated in the 6th annual Marshall University Marathon on Sunday.

Former Marshall student and cross country runner John Davis, who is now works as a nurse at King's Daughters Medical Center, was the overall winner finishing the 26.2 mile course in 2 hours, 43 minutes and 56 seconds. Davis, who also successfully qualified for the Boston Marathon, finished more than five minutes ahead of the second place finisher.

Christina Johnston from Xenia, Ohio, was the first female finisher and seventh overall with a time of 2:56.19.

In addition to the full marathon, participants could also run in the half-marathon (13.1 miles), the half-marathon relay and a 5-mile walk.

Male and female half-marathon winners were David McCollam (1:11.02) and Janelle Ralph (1:30.29).
