Marshall hosting annual marching band festival

HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University will host the annual Tri-State Marching Band Festival at Joan C. Edwards Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The first band will perform at 11 a.m., with marching bands taking the field throughout the afternoon and evening. The Marching Thunder will cap off the day with an exhibition at 9 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony.

Admission is $5 for school age through adults. Parking is $2 on the West Stadium lot until full. All other lots are available at no charge.

A total of 32 bands from West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio will compete. Concessions will be available, and DVDs of the band performances will be available for purchase.

The bands scheduled to perform include in the following order starting at 11 a.m., and continuing 1:30 p.m. every 15 minutes: Pikeview, Mason County (Ky.), Buffalo, Greenbrier West, Ravenswood, St. Mary's, South Gallia, Shady Spring, Bluefield, Independence.

Starting at 2 p.m. and continuing to 3:15 p.m.: St. Albans, Minford (Ohio), Woodrow Wilson, Lincoln County, River Valley (Ohio).

Starting at 3:30 p.m. and continuing to 4:15 p.m.: Nicholas County, Wahama, Wayne.

Starting at 4:45 p.m. and continuing to 6:15 p.m.: Huntington, Liberty, Blazer (Ky.), Poca, Nitro, Scott.

Starting at 7:15 p.m. and continuing to 8:45 p.m.: Beavercreek (Ohio), Richwood, Spring Valley, Princeton, Meigs (Ohio), Ripley, Cabell Midland.
