MARSHALL UNIVERSITY
Marshall hosting Hispanic Heritage celebration
HUNTINGTON -- Officials in the Department of Modern Languages at Marshall University have organized an event to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
Two speakers will take part in an event at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, in the Shawkey Dining Room on the second floor of the Memorial Student Center.
The event includes an opportunity to view a rare collection of photos from the Casasola Archives on the Mexican revolution and another one from a collection of pictures taken by Juan Rulfo, considered one of Latin America's most esteemed writers and a high-caliber artistic photographer.
In addition to the exhibition of pictures, Roberto de la Torre, an expert on Rulfo's photography, will deliver a presentation connecting literature and photography on Rulfo's work. And, Pilar Melero, a scholar on the Mexican Revolution, will lecture on issues of gender, class and race during that historical event.
