HUNTINGTON -- Construction is ongoing at the site of what will become the new Marshall University Alumni Center and Foundation building.

Work on the $9 million project started last month and is expected to take 16 months in all to complete.

When it is finished, the center will serve as a home for Marshall's Alumni Association and the university Foundation.

The building also will house the Marshall Office of Development.

The new facility is expected to meet the university's needs in the face of continuing growth, and will provide a location for alumni to interact with students, thereby building a strong base for the association's future.

Also, the facility will be able to host community activities with expanded conference and meeting rooms.

The alumni center is the last of three recent projects to get underway at the university, all paid for with private money through the same funding campaign, known as "The Bridge."

The other projects include a $2 million softball field, and a $4 million engineering building.
