HUNTINGTON -- More than 400 students will receive degrees or certificates from Marshall Community and Technical College tonight, and MCTC also will pay special recognition to state Sen. Robert Plymale.

Plymale, D-Wayne, will be presented with the Community College Champion award at tonight's commencement, which starts at 7 p.m. at the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center.

The award, according to a statement from the college, is in recognition of Plymale's advocacy for community colleges.

"Senator Plymale has, and continues to be, one of the biggest supporters of the community college system in the state of West Virginia," said MCTC President Keith Cotroneo. "His efforts for all the community colleges, and in particular MCTC, have resulted in dramatic improvements to our system so that citizens can receive the education and training they need to be productive members of the workforce."

Plymale, now in his fourth term in the Senate, serves as chairman of the Senate Education Committee.
