Libraries offer food-themed reading groups
CHESAPEAKE -- Children are invited to the Chesapeake and Proctorville branches of the Briggs Lawrence County Public Library, where they can literally dig in to some delicious reads.
The library is kicking off its second year of its successful "Briggsy's Booktasters' Club" at the Chesapeake and Proctorville branches. Children in kindergarten through second grades can participate in reading food-related stories, crafts, activities and music, and they can sample the food that is featured in the book.
The September treat is "Wonderful Watermelon." The club will meet at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Chesapeake Branch, and at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Proctorville branch.
Reservations are required, and seating is limited. Reservations made be made by calling Briggs' Children's Services at 740-867-4786 or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
The club will continue in October with "Candy Corn" to celebrate National Candy Corn Day, which is Oct. 30; November's theme is "Super Sandwiches" to celebrate National Sandwich Day on Nov. 3.
"Candy Corn" is set for 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, in Chesapeake and 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, at Proctorville.
The club will not meet in December, but Santa programs will be offered at each of the Briggs Library's five branches that month.
Keep up with the library's children's programs on Facebook by searching "Briggsy's Kids."
