Pianist next up in concert series

IRONTON -- The next performance in the Ironton Council for the Arts' Lawrence County Concert Series will take the audience on a journey through the classics.

Jesse Davis will perform his classical piano beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Ohio University Southern Riffe Center Mains Rotunda.

Tickets cost $10 at the door.

This will be Davis' third concert in Ironton. He previously shared his keyboard virtuosity in 2001 and 2005. Since then, Davis has been touring Europe, giving solo performances and earning top prizes in several international piano competitions.

Davis makes his home in Fayetteville, N.C., where he serves on the faculty of the Synder Music Academy.

According to a press release from the Ironton Council for the Arts, Davis has recorded on the True Sound Label in Monte San Savino, Italy. His 2003 Brahms and Ravel recording, sponsored by a Regional Artist Project Grant from the Arts and Science Council of Charlotte/Mecklenburg, aired on the NPR program "Music at Baylor."

He is one of five young artists featured on a live DVD of French piano music hosted by Jean-Michel Damase. His live performances are also featured on the Musical Arts Society of New Orleans boxed set of the 2004 New Orleans International Piano Competition and the 2007 Russian Music Competition DVDs.

His performance has also been featured on Classical Radio's WCPE of Raleigh, N.C. Davis' Ukraine debut performance of Rachmaninov's 2nd Piano Concerto with the Lugansk Philharmonic was televised in the Ukraine.
