Lawrence area seeks new chamber president
SOUTH POINT, Ohio -- Jerry Rowe, president of the Greater Lawrence County Area Chamber of Commerce for the past four months, announced Wednesday his plans to leave the post to pursue a business opportunity in Kentucky.
Rowe, 42, is leaving the chamber job at the end of the month. He has been awarded a Serve-Pro franchise for Boyd, Greenup, Carter and Lewis counties. The company repairs homes that have water or fire damage or mold problems.
"A lot of training is involved," Rowe said. He and a relative are working on the franchise and plan to hire several employees and begin operating around the end of July.
"The chamber job was very rewarding," Rowe said. "I worked with some great people. I believe there are great things on the horizon for Lawrence County and the surrounding area."
"He's a fine person, and he did a fantastic job," Bill Dingus, the chamber's executive director, said about Rowe taking a job in the private sector.
Dingus will call a meeting of the chamber board to discuss a replacement. "We're looking for someone who had a successful career," he said.
The position is part-time, he said. "Financially, we can't afford a full-time person," he said. "We're probably looking for a retired person."
Rowe plans to continue sending out the "Monday Morning Mix" newsletter to chamber members. "It is important for this line of communication to stay open and I encourage each of you to continue to send your information to be published."
"We want to keep (the weekly newsletter) alive," Dingus said.
