Lawrence sheriff's office cleared in death
IRONTON -- The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office says it has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the death of an inmate at the Lawrence County Jail in December.
Steven J. Conley, 23, of Kitts Hill, complained of an illness on Dec. 15 and was taken by ambulance to an Ironton hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Conley's death was conducted by the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, which was appointed through the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association. Fayette County officers interviewed law enforcement officials, inmates, employees of Lawrence County Emergency Medical Services and members of Conley's family, according to a press release from Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless.
Fayette officials issued their report clearing the agency of any wrongdoing in the incident to the Lawrence County Prosecutor's office, the release said.
The Franklin County Coroner's Office determined Conley's cause of death was "acute myocardial infarction due to infective endocarditis due to intravenous drug use," the release said.
