Demolition derby scheduled for today

May. 23, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

PROCTORVILLE, Ohio -- Have you ever become so frustrated while doing yard work that you thought about crashing your mower into something?

Today, daredevils will be doing that very thing -- only they'll be crashing into each other.

The Riding Lawnmower Demolition Derby is a new class that has been added to the Evil Kazeevil Promotions' annual Spring Demoltion Derby, which starts at 3 p.m. today, May 23, at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds.

"No joke, we will be derbying riding lawnmowers and people are coming from everywhere to get in on the action," Adam Kazee, owner of Evil Kazeevil Promotions, said in a press release.

Today's event will include a total of five classes. Along with the lawnmower class, there will also be a youth heat for kids age 12 to 16. The kids can have an adult passenger ride with them, and the rules for this class are a little different than for the adult drivers.

There will also be both stock and pro full-size classes, along with the usual compact class.

Kazee said he expects more than 100 contestants. Calling this the biggest Evil Kazeevil show to date, he said there will be more than $12,000 awarded in the various classes.

Admission for spectators is $10; children 5 and younger are free. Pit passes are an additional $10.
