Outdoor horse arena to celebrate grand opening

May. 23, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

IRONTON -- The Lawrence County Horseman's Association invites the community to the grand opening of its new, outdoor horse arena on the south side of Ironton.

The celebration -- an Equine Expo -- will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m. on June 1 at the arena, which is located directly across from the State Highway Garage, just off of the Coal Grove exit.

Equine demonstrations will begin at 11 a.m., when Horsemen's Association members do a Grand Entry and Salute to the Red, White and Blue on horseback. At noon and at 5 p.m., the Northern Ohio Outlaws-Cowboy Mounted Shooters will provide some fast riding and shooting, according to a news release from the association.

Other demonstrations include barrel racing; cow cutting; reining; jumping; Western pleasure and showmanship, and an Extreme Cowboy Challenge Course.

Booths will be set up with horse-related information for those wanting to get into horseback riding or wanting to expand their equine knowledge. There will be a local veterinarian, equine massage therapists, farriers, training facilities, trail riding groups, horse camping facilities, school-related programs and more.

There will be a Kids Corral where kids can run and play horse-related games, and children can pet or brush a horse at the stable. There will also be pony and horse rides.

Then, at 7 p.m., there will be an Equine Fun Show for anyone who has a horse to try their skills.
