Two seriously injured in separate accidents

CANNONSBURG, Ky. -- Two people were flown to Huntington hospitals following separate accidents on Cannonsburg Road, according to news releases from the Boyd County Sheriff's Department.

Richard J. Collier, 52, of 2915 Cannonsburg Road, was listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit at Cabell Huntington Hospital Wednesday evening, according to a nursing supervisor.

Collier apparently suffered head and chest injuries in a single-car accident in the 6800 block of Cannonsburg about 10:24 p.m. Tuesday. The driver of a pickup truck apparently lost control of a vehicle while heading westbound, crossed the center line and struck a tree. He was cited for driving under the influence.

In the other wreck, Joseph A. Groves Jr., 17, of 2110 Center St., Catlettsburg, was headed eastbound in the 5400 block of Cannonsburg about 1:34 a.m. Wednesday when he apparently lost control of the vehicle and it went into a ditch, striking a culvert.

He was flown to a Huntington hospital via Healthnet helicopter suffering from multiple injuries, according to a news release.
