Uecker named Legislator of the Year
COLUMBUS -- Ohio Sen. Joseph Uecker (R-Miami Township) was named the Legislator of the Year by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ohio.
The VFW specifically thanked Uecker for his sponsorship of an amendment to the state budget that increased the veterans hall tax exemption cap from $10,000 to $36,000, a move that will help VFW halls retain more of their funds.
"Veterans are grateful for Senator Uecker's commitment to our issues," VFW of Ohio Charities Executive Director Bill Seagraves said in a news release. "His work in the legislature and his family's service in the armed forces are greatly appreciated by the VFW and all veterans groups."
Uecker has two sons, a daughter, and a daughter-in-law who are serving as officers in the U.S. Air Force.
"It can never be overstated that 'freedom is not free,' but instead comes at a price too great that it could never be properly repaid," Uecker said in the release. "I want to do all I can in my role as a legislator to see that the sacrifice of our veterans and their families is never forgotten and that all Ohioans know how great a privilege it is to be a citizen of this great nation."
Uecker serves the 14th Ohio Senate District, which encompasses Adams, Brown, Clermont, and Scioto counties as well as part of Lawrence County. He is the vice chairman of the Senate Committee on State Government Oversight and Reform. To learn more, go to www.OhioSenate.gov/Uecker.
