Officials investigating inmate suicide
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification has been asked to investigate the reported suicide of an inmate at the Scioto County Corrections Center over the weekend, according to Sheriff Marty V. Donini.
While conducting an inmate count about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, corrections center staff observed an inmate not in his bunk. The inmate was found hanging inside his secured cell.
The inmate was identified as Jason T. Brown, 35, of the 3200 block of Rhodes Avenue, New Boston. He was being held on charges of failure to appear and theft, according to a news release.
Brown was the only inmate in the cell.
The body was ordered sent to the Montgomery County morgue by Scioto County Coroner Darin Adams, according to the release.
