Lawrence to kick off Relay for Life Campaign
PROCTORVILLE -- Lawrence County will kick off the American Cancer Society Relay for Life campaign drive with a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds in Proctorville.
Anyone who wants to learn more about Relay For Life and possibly get involved is invited to attend the breakfast, which is a kickoff rally that is open to the entire community.
Relay for Life is a community event that honors cancer survivors, current cancer patients and caregivers. Relay also pays tribute to those who have lost their battle with cancer. During the overnight community celebration, individuals and teams camp out, barbecue, dance and take turns walking around a track relay-style to raise funds to fight cancer. At nightfall, participants will light hundreds of luminaria around the track in a moving ceremony to honor cancer survivors, as well as friends and family members lost to the disease.
