Tires to be removed, along County Road 6

January 16, 2013 @ 10:50 PM

COAL GROVE, Ohio -- Crews hired by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency will begin removing more than 5,000 scrap tires along County Road 6 north of Coal Grove, according to Dan Palmer, director of the Lawrence Scioto Solid Waste District.

"We found out about it before Christmas," Palmer said Tuesday. "We don't know who dumped them there. The state EPA is paying for the cleanup. It will take about two weeks. They began moving equipment in today. They'll start working at 7 a.m. Wednesday."

"This is the biggest scrap tire cleanup we've had," Palmer said.
