Relay for Life event kicks off fundraiser
PROCTORVILLE -- When you see your own community come together for other people, you can't help but smile and feel good about where you live.
The Relay for Life pancake breakfast was held at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Jan. 26. The theme of community effort resonated as people and businesses came together to discuss a plan of hope for survivors, talk about loved ones and remember those who have lost their lives.
Despite the serious reason for the gathering, there were smiling faces that greeted everyone asking each individual, "How about some breakfast?"
Lawrence County Relay for Life chairperson Melanie Kerstetter said she was pleased with the turnout at the pancake breakfast.
"The kick-off was a success," she said. "We had three new teams sign up at kick-off."
Another team rally meeting was at Ohio University Proctorville on Tuesday, and there is still plenty of time for more teams and individuals to sign up.
The rally is planned for May 18 at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds, 7755 County Road 107, Proctorville.
It is an overnight community fundraiser where team members camp out, play games and take turns walking around a track, relay style, to raise money to help fight cancer. It is also a day to remember those lost to cancer, those who have survived cancer and the hope that cancer itself will be eliminated completely.
