'Shop with a Cop' event provides 33 kids a Christmas

December 17, 2012 @ 11:30 PM

HUNTINGTON -- Thanks to donations from the local business community and several fundraisers, the 2012 Shop With A Cop program had about $180 to spend on each of 33 children Monday at the Wal-Mart in Burlington, Ohio, according to Sgt. Chris Smith of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

The kids are between the ages of 2 to 15. Officers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Lawrence County sheriff's office and from adult probation at the Lawrence County Courthouse participated in the program.

The children were chosen with the assistance of local schools, churches and the health department.

An Ironton businessman who asked to remain anonymous donated $3,800 to the program, Smith said. The officers also sold apple butter and raffled off a television to help raise money for the program.
