Emergency group seeks comment on hazard plan
IRONTON -- Lawrence County is seeking residents' input as it works to update its hazard mitigation plan.
The 2003/2007 Lawrence County, Ohio Hazard Mitigation Plan must be reviewed in order to remain compliant with the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, according to Michael Boster, director of the Lawrence County Emergency Management Agency.
"This effort requires a review and evaluation of the existing plan, an update of the action plan for each participating community and the overall development of an updated plan for the county," Boster said in a press release. "The process also helps the participating communities to achieve and sustain future economic and community development, growth, and changes that incorporate their local values and concerns for resiliency to natural disasters....We cannot stop natural hazards from occurring, of course, but we can often identify steps that communities can take to reduce the impact or consequences of a particular hazard on the community."
Residents can view the current plan and submit written comments online at Lawrence County Engineer's website at http://lawrencecountyengineer.org/forms-publications.php under the "Forms and Publications" tab.
"I appreciate Doug Cade and the County Engineer's Office partnering with our agency to make the plan available for public comment," Boster said in the release. "The Engineer, along with other key community leaders, has been involved in the review process. Collaboration is always a very important part of the emergency management planning process."
