Older Americans Month proclaimed in Lawrence
IRONTON -- May was Older Americans Month, and the Lawrence County Commission made a special proclamation at its regular meeting on Thursday, May 16, recognizing Older Americans Month in Lawrence County.
This year's theme, according to a news release from the Area Agency on Aging District 7, was "Unleash Your Power: Be a Golden Buckeye!"
"The AAA7 joins the Ohio Department of Aging in encouraging all of our Golden Buckeyes to unleash their power," the news release stated.
Ohio is home to nearly 2.4 million adults age 60 and older, and another approximately 2 million baby boomers.
In observance of Older Americans Month, representatives from the AAA7 and the Ironton Senior Center/Ironton-Lawrence Community Action Organization recently visited the Lawrence County Commissioners Office in Ironton where a proclamation for Older Americans Month was signed by the commissioners.
"During this month, we celebrate our older Ohioans throughout our 10-county district and the many contributions they make to our communities," Pamela K. Matura, executive director with the AAA7, said in the news release. "Older Americans are a valuable asset to our society, making many contributions that have been and will continue to be a vital part of what makes our district so very special."
The Area Agency on Aging District 7 is a nonprofit corporation that helps coordinate programs to help older adults and those with disabilities live safely and independently at home or in their community through long-term care home and community-based options.
