IRONTON — A pregnant Ironton area woman was addicted to prescription drugs when she shot a man once in the head as he slept last June so she could take his oxycodone.

As a result, Ashley D. Seagraves, 24, of the 200 block of Pearl Street, Ironton, was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison. She won’t be eligible to see a parole board for 23 years, said Lawrence County Prosecutor Brigham Anderson.

Seagraves pleaded guilty Monday to murder with a gun specification, felonious assault on a jail matron, aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence for taking a small, white safe that contained Delmar Jenkins prescription drugs and dumping it in Scioto County.

“She was addicted to prescription drugs,” Anderson said. Seagraves shot the victim while he slept to steal his drugs, he said.
