Community will miss Ernie Hall

Mar. 07, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

Today, in our community, we laid to rest a great man and a total servant of God to his fellow human beings!

Ernest B "Ernie" Hall Jr. was escorted to his final resting place by a tremendously loving family, dedicated and equally loving friends, and a host of clergy, dignitaries, and special guests whose lives Ernie had touched in various ways during his 64 years of life. It was indeed, a fitting and wonderful tribute to this giant of a man with a gentle smile and good words for everyone!

Our little community on the Ohio River where Ernie and I grew up together as boys, came out in full force to show their love, respect, and appreciation! Many local, county, and state agencies and offices accompanied Ernie's funeral procession and posted, in vital points throughout the route, a dignified expression of their respect for this very special man. I am most grateful for that indeed!

To me, this man was "Doc," an expression of affection and respect. Ernie was my cousin by relationship; but, also, my friend by choice. As many folks in these parts can attest, you could not have a better friend!

Ernie leaves a legacy unequaled by many of us: a loving family, a multitude of friends, and an extended community who thought of him as a pillar of exemplary character! He was a decent and honorable man who was relevant to all generations; and, whose memory will live forever in this little town and the surrounding areas as well!

Ernie just loved folks; and, he had a special affinity for sports and the young folks who play them! He was a great athlete himself and he played on and in many of the local fields, courts, and stadiums as well as many from outside the area while in college. He has coached and sponsored local teams throughout his life; and, it is my fervent hope that the community fathers and leaders, in conjunction with the local school authorities, might consider, as a lasting memorial to his memory, naming one of the local complexes, "The Ernest B 'Ernie' Hall Jr. Memorial Athletic Complex"! The ball fields adjacent to Ohio 775 very near Ernie's home and business might be just the place to begin the thinking. It would be a wonderful thing for his grandchildren to see each time that they pass by the fields!

Thanks to so many folks who honored my cousin and friend, Ernie Hall; and, thanks to his loving family who always cared for, loved, and honored their husband, father, and grandfather; and, thanks to God for allowing us all time with this great gentleman, friend, and cousin!
