Saddle Up raises $5,000 for children's hospital

Oct. 18, 2012 @ 12:00 AM

IRONTON -- The Lawrence County Chapter of the Ohio Horseman's Council raised more than $5,000 in its annual Saddle Up for St. Jude event.

The event included a trail ride on the Lake Vesuvius horse trail system, as well as dinner and auction. Donations were collected by ride participants from their sponsors. Others donated directly to the event.

All money collected goes to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as Lawrence County OHC absorbs all expenses incurred to put on the event.

"We Have been doing this since 2002 and always look forward to coming together for a meaningful opportunity to enjoy our horses and the great outdoors," Wanda Crowe, club president and event coordinator, said in a release. "The community came together to make this trail ride a success and to raise funds to help treat childhood cancer and other deadly diseases."

Since opening in 1962, St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and around the world. No child is ever denied treatment because of a family's inability to pay.
