Oct. 25, 2012 @ 12:00 AM

PEDRO, Ohio -- The Elkins Creek Horse Club raised more than $7,000 with its Saddle Up For St. Jude event on Oct. 13.

The club held the event, which raised a total of $7,350 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, at the Elkins Creek Horse Camp at Pedro, Ohio. The money will support the hospital's mission of finding cures and saving children from cancer and other deadly diseases.

A total of 107 horseman and horsewomen attended the event, which included the trail ride, a meal from Moe's Southwest Grill of Ashland, Ky., an auction and a live band. The money that was raised came from riders taking pledges and from the auction.

"We look forward to coming together for a meaningful opportunity to enjoy our horses and the great outdoors," Charlie Whitt, event coordinator, said in a news release. "The community came together to make this event a success and to raise funds to help treat childhood cancer and other deadly diseases."
