One lane of Ironton-Russell Bridge to close

IRONTON -- One lane of the Ironton-Russell Bridge will be closed at times during the next two weeks as part of an annual inspection program, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation. The inspection work is scheduled to start Monday, Nov. 5, and run through Nov. 16.

The 90-year-old bridge was closed for about an hour Monday night after local police received a complaint about the two-lane span. The bridge was reopened following an inspection and determined to be safe for traffic following a second inspection Tuesday.

Crews from Richland Engineering will do a physical inspection during the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the next two weeks, weather permitting. During the inspection, one lane of the bridge will be closed to traffic. Intermittent lane restrictions may cause some traffic delays.
