Lawrence roads close for repair work

IRONTON -- Several county roads are being closed starting this week for landslide repair work, according to Lawrence County Engineer Doug Cade.

County Road 4, Waterloo-Etna Road, was closed starting Monday for landslide repair work. The road will be closed for about two weeks during the daytime hours only while crews work in the area. The road will be open for buses and emergency vehicles only during the daytime hours.

The work is part of repairs to fix more than 150 landslides that occurred on county roads starting in the spring of 2011.

County Road 8, Symmes Creek Road, will be closed starting Tuesday, for approximately 45 days.

County Road 2, Greasy Ridge Road, will be closed at 15800 County Road 2 starting Thursday. A section of the road will be closed for approximately 45 days.

Harmonica Club hosts last event of season

HUNTINGTON -- The Harmonica Club will have its last "Night on the Town" for the season at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Pullman Square in downtown Huntington.

The club meets year-round at 7 p.m. Tuesdays at Gino's Pub, 25th Street and 5th Avenue in Huntington.

OU professor has book signing

IRONTON -- Deborah Marinski, a history professor at Ohio University-Southern, will have a book signing from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, in the Caucus Room at the Academic Center, 1804 Liberty Ave.

Her book, "William McKinley: A Modern Man," will be available for $40. The book, published last year, also is available online at www.novapublishers.com at a cost of $50.

Light refreshments will be served The book signing is presented by the Ohio University Southern History Club.
