Ironton man indicted in theft case

IRONTON -- An Ironton man was indicted Wednesday on nine counts of theft, tampering with evidence and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity for allegedly participating in a theft ring that took items from a local business, according to Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney Brigham Anderson.

David K. Markel, 50, of the 2400 block of South 8th Street, Ironton, was charged with nine counts of theft from Storage on the Spot in Ironton between 2009 and June 10, 2013.

It was one of 16 indictments returned Wednesday by a Lawrence County grand jury.

Also charged Wednesday were:

Joseph A. Trout, 23, of the 1100 block of 4th Street, South Point, was indicted on a charge of robbery. He is charged with knocking down a woman in the Wal-Mart parking lot, injuring her last May 11, Anderson said.

Two people also were indicted on charges of receiving stolen property, money collected at Frog Town USA in Ironton that had been dedicated to wounded veterans last May 31. Named as defendants in the case were Christopher Dickerson, 18, and Jodi Blevins, 19, both of Ohio 141, Ironton.

John E. McGlone, 30, of the 1900 block of County Road 35, Chesapeake, was indicted on charges of burglary and misdemeanor theft.

Alton J. Day, 22, of Township Road 1079, Chesapeake, was indicted on a charge of complicity to burglary.

Brian K. Shaffer, 42, of Township Road 1212, Proctorville, was indicted on charges of tampering with evidence and grand theft.

David C. Barry, 43, of Township Road 1257, Proctorville, was indicted on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and possession of drugs.

Aaron Cooper, 32, of the 400 block of Solida Road, South Point, was indicted a charge of theft of a firearm, two counts of breaking and entering and three counts of misdemeanor theft.

Gregory C. Cox Jr., 32, of County Road 21, Ironton, was indicted on two counts of tampering with evidence, grand theft, receiving stolen property and misdemeanor resisting arrest.

Bruce K. Justice, 58, of Private Road 1385, Ironton, was indicted on a charge of tampering with evidence and two counts of receiving stolen property.

Jerry Ray Blevins, 18, of the 600 block of South 8th Street, Ironton, was indicted on charges of tampering with evidence and breaking and entering.

Larry D. Justice, 52, of Private Road 1385, Ironton, was indicted on two counts of receiving stolen property.

Travis Gentry, 23, of the 400 block of Solida Road, South Point, was indicted on a charge of breaking and entering.

Calvin Estep, 30, of Township Road 615, South Point, was indicted on a charge of theft, complicity to misdemeanor theft, misdemeanor theft, and two counts of criminal damaging.

Jack Dust, 30, of Township Road 113, Pedro, was indicted on charges of possession of drugs and assault.

An indictment is a formal charge made against a person by a grand jury. It does not establish guilt or innocence.
