IRONTON -- A Chesapeake area man was sentenced Wednesday to five years in prison on attempted burglary and other charges.
Robert R. Davis, 33, of 386 Township Road 286, pleaded guilty to attempted burglary, two counts of theft of drugs and criminal damaging. Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge D. Scott Bowling sentenced him.
In an unrelated case, Michael Pennington, 18, of 10908 County Road 4, Waterloo, was sentenced to three years in prison by Bowling for community control sanctions. The defendant could be released after serving six months if he stays out of trouble while in prison.
In another case, Scotty R Bruce, 22, of 204 Solida Road, Apt. E, South Point, pleaded guilty to pandering sexually oriented matter to a minor. As part of a plea agreement, a similar charge was dismissed.
Bruce was placed on community control sanctions for four years by Judge Charles "Chuck" Cooper. Bruce also was named a sexually oriented offender and will be required to report his address to authorities for the next 15 years.
In other cases:
- Scott D. Christian, 28, of 622 Ohio 650, Ironton, pleaded guilty to five counts of breaking and entering. He will be sentenced next week. He faces 18 months in prison.
- Gene Cox, 39, of 4216 Ohio 93, Ironton, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs. He was placed on community control sanctions for four years and ordered to successfully complete a four- to six-month stay at a community based correctional facility. He also was fined $2,500 and his driver's license was suspended for six months.
- Peter S. Hamond, 35, of 213 High St., Coal Grove, denied violating terms of his community control sanctions. The case was set for trial on Aug. 6.
- Michael Shane Maynard, 36, of Route 1, Wayne, pleaded innocent to a charge of burglary. A pre-trial in the case was set for Aug. 6.
- Shawn K. Travis, 26, of 2130 Miller Drive, Huntington, pleaded innocent to charges of breaking and entering, vandalism and grand theft. Bowling set bond in the case for $12,500. A pre-trial was set for Aug. 6.
