Putnam student named runner of the year
HURRICANE -- Hurricane High School senior cross-country runner Alex Dent has been awarded the Gatorade West Virginia Girls Cross County Runner of the Year award for 2009-2010.
LEVY: If you are a resident of Hurricane, you have the opportunity to vote on the Excess Levy. The passing of the Excess Levy will result in a small raise in taxes that will help pay for streets and police. Early ballots may be cast weekdays at the Municipal Building until Feb. 3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Official voting will be 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 6, also in the Municipal Building.

Totten of Calvary, Smith of Winfield are Cagers of the Week

The second regular session of the 79th Legislative is in its 21st day of session. Remarkably, the Legislature has already addressed the issue of the 180-day school calendar. The bill that the governor will sign into law tomorrow is a creative compromise between those who wanted to add five minutes to each teaching day, thereby meeting an aggregate amount of instructional time per year, and those that wanted to extend the beginning and ending days of the school calender.
