Benefit concert planned for local cancer patient
SCOTT DEPOT -- The community is invited to a special benefit gospel concert at 7 p.m. this Saturday, July 19 at the Teays Valley Church of God in Scott Depot.
Groups that will perform include The Tignor Family, the Master's Quartet, and the Parsons Family, a bluegrass gospel group. A love offering will be received to benefit Bethany Morris, a nurse at St. Mary's Medical Center who was diagnosed with advanced cancer this past winter. Morris is a member of the Teays Valley Church of God.
"Bethany has been a woman of intense faith and courage from the beginning of this journey," said Dr. Melissa Pratt, the church's pastor. "She has been an inspiration and blessing to all who have visited her during these last difficult months. It's our turn to bless her."

Winfield Church of God hosting Bible school
WINFIELD -- The Winfield Church of God Mission invites youngsters to its vacation Bible school, Son Harvest County Fair, from 7-8:30 p.m. daily July 24-26.
The Bible school is open to ages 5 through 14.
The children will perform a program at 6 p.m. July 27. Pastor Adam Null invites parents and community members to attend, then stay after the program for some homemade ice cream.
Culloden United Baptist Church hosts services
CULLODEN -- Culloden United Baptist Church welcomes you to join in worship services at the church with Pastor Leonard Cremeans and his wife, Nellie Cremeans.
Everyone is most welcome to visit the church, located about one mile south of U.S. 60 on Charleys Creek Road.
Sunday school begins at 10 a.m.; Sunday evening worship is at 6 p.m. and Wednesday Bible Study is at 7 p.m.
Area children invited to 'Kids Extravaganza'
HURRICANE -- Sar Shalom Bible Center invites area children to the "Kids Extravaganza" to explore the question, "How do the dinosaurs fit in the Bible?" during the last week of July.
The sessions will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, July 24-26, and at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 27.
Dr. Jackson, of Points of Origins, will speak every night and Sunday morning. There will also be plenty of crafts, food and fun.
The topics include:
- Thursday, July 24: Dinosaurs and the Bible
- Friday, July 25: Dinosaurs and the Ark
- Saturday, July 26: Preserved Dinosaur Samples
- Sunday, July 27: Compromising Genesis: An Un-Natural Selection
Deadline for early registration is Tuesday, July 22. The first 25 kids to pre-register will receive a free pass to the Wave Pool.

First Baptist Church of Hurricane hosts VBS
HURRICANE -- The First Baptist Church of Hurricane, located at 2635 Main St., Hurricane, invites our youngsters in grades kindergarten through five to attend God's Big Backyard vacation Bible school.
The Bible school will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. nightly, July 21-25.
Each day begins at Backyard Bash with large-group music, a skit, and fun, where kids will be introduced to a Bible story and Life Focus. Then after kids experience the other activities of the day, they'll gather back to Backyard Bash to review, to be encouraged, and to be motivated to serve others.
Other sites include Backyard Bible Club, where kids will explore the Bible story in a variety of interactive ways and apply the story by completing the "It's Your Serve" service challenges; Backyard Food & Fun, where kids have time to move around, have fun, and fill up; Clothesline Creations, where kids have fun creating crafts that are service- and lesson-oriented; and Community Corner, where kids hear stories about community servants and will get motivated to be involved in community projects. All these fun activities connect to the Bible story, Bible Memory, and the Life Focus of serving!

WINFIELD -- Please join Winfield United Methodist Church (behind McDonald's) for Power Lab's Vacation Bible School fun including sciency-oozy crafts, high-energy music and hyper-speed games while learning all about Jesus giving us the power to do anything!
