Nov. 09, 2012 @ 12:00 AM

ELEANOR -- Putnam Career & Technical Center celebrated using alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles, promoting clean technology, and reducing energy dependence during with a local event of the National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey.

Held on Oct. 18, PCTC's Odyssey was one of more than 160 events held across the United States and internationally in Paris and Gothenburg, Sweden, to promote the use of and raise awareness about alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles.

"We were very excited to be a part of Odyssey 2012," Kevin Roberts, of PCTC, said in a news release. "Our event gave us an opportunity to share valuable information with the public about alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles. We helped Odyssey in its goal to spread the message of embracing these new technologies."

National AFV Day Odyssey is a biennial event coordinated and created by the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium at West Virginia University. This year was the 10-year anniversary of the event; the 2012 theme was "Driving Change Across America."

The Putnam Career & Technical Center's Odyssey event included speakers on both hybrid and bio-diesel vehicles with a Toyota Camry Hybrid on display. Speakers include: Kevin Roberts (Automotive Technology Instructor at Putnam Career & Technical Center) on hybrid vehicles and Todd Wilkinson (Diesel Technology Instructor at Putnam Career & Technical Center) on bio-diesel. Sponsors included: Carol Bauer for the use of her 2011 Toyota Camry Hybrid.

Odyssey is comprised of numerous green transportation related events coordinated and hosted by NAFTC members, Clean Cities coalitions, and others who believe in cleaner, more energy efficient forms of transportation. Odyssey 2012 was sponsored nationally by Honda and Toyota. AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) and West Virginia University were national partners of the event.
