Republican candidates sweep in Putnam
WINFIELD -- Incumbent Assessor Sherry Hayes defeated former Putnam County Assessor D.W. "Peachie" Arthur in a rematch of the 2008 election, according to unofficial returns posted on the Putnam County Clerk's website.
Hayes, the Republican, received 14,390 votes to Democrat Arthur's 8,266 with 47 of 47 precincts reporting. Hayes defeated Arthur in 2008.
Republican Joseph K. "Joe" Reeder received the most votes for the seat vacated by the retirement of Putnam Circuit Judge O.C. Spaulding. Reeder received 12,855 votes over Democrat J. Robert Leslie's 9,515 in early returns.
Republican Steve Deweese defeated Democrat Bud Lett in the race for Putnam County sheriff. Deweese received 15,194 votes to Lett's 7,756 votes.
Republican Andy Skidmore garnered more votes than Democrat Lee Casto in the County Commission race. Skidmore received 13,085 votes to Casto's 8,639.
In uncontested Putnam County races:
Incumbent magistrates Kylene Dunlap Brown and Linda Hunt and newcomer Scot Lawrence, all Republicans, were elected with Brown receiving 14,135 votes, Hunt 14,339 votes and Lawrence 13,063 votes.
Republican Prosecuting Attorney Mark Sorsaia received 18,542 votes.
Democrat Randy B. Crace received 15,420 votes in the surveyor race.
Putnam County had a voter turnout of 65.82 percent, or 23,963 out of 36,409 registered voters casting ballots.
