Elias Beacom named Gamer of the Week
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and the Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Gamer of the Week award to Elias Beacom of Teays Valley Christian School.
The Teays Valley Christian Lions boys basketball team has come out of the gate hot winning 3 of their first 4 games of the season. Senior point guard, Elias Beacom, has had a lot to do with that hot start eclipsing 1000 career points this week. In his first four games, Elias has scored 97 total points, shooting 65 percent from 3 point land and 67 percent from the field.
“Overall I’ve been thinking about how I want to be remembered. I’m not really worried about the points or assists or anything; I just want to be a team player and help my team win in any way I can,” said Beacom.
Head Coach Jody Sowards had good things to say about his senior leader, “Elias is a leader both on and off the court within our school. He takes everything he does seriously and cares immensely about his witness as a person and it has carried over into basketball for him. This summer he began to show a lot of leadership potential, both spiritually and athletically and that has really carried over in a big way to our basketball team.”
Elias is a model for the phrase, ‘hard work pays off.’ This offseason, he worked his tail off in the weight room, “I realized that I was kind of skinny last year, so I hit the weights this offseason and successfully gained 15lbs of muscle. I attribute a lot of my early success this year to the hard work I put in this summer.” Beacom had a lot to say about his teammates too saying, “We’ve been playing really good ball so far; the team chemistry and familiarity is really paying off for us. Everyone wants to win and is extremely focused on our goals as a team. We know who has blessed us with these talents and abilities and we don’t want to take that for granted.”
Coach Sowards values Elias’ contributions a whole lot saying, “Elias has always been our go to point guard and this year he feels even more comfortable with our team chemistry. He is vital to our team chemistry but at the same time, he’s looking to get the ball to his teammates.”
When asked about their expectations for the rest of the year Beacom said, “I hope we can continue our early success for the rest of the season. We’ve already beaten a few of the teams projected to finish at the top, so we are confident we can go all the way.” Elias relies heavily on his faith and when asked about his inspiration for playing basketball he replied, “I know I’ve been blessed with the talents and family that I have to go and play this game that I love so much.”
Please look for other local area high school athletes to be named next week’s Gamer of the Week, Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and the Putnam Herald.
