Hurricane 8th grader is spelling bee champ
WINFIELD — Hurricane Middle School eighth-grader Robert Webster became the Putnam County spelling champion on Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Putnam Career & Technical Center.
Robert Webster, who is the son of Rumiela and Jon Webster of Hurricane, competed with champions from 15 elementary schools and four other middle schools to win the bee in the 10th round.
Lakeside Elementary fifth-grader Rebekah Dimsdale was first runner up. She is the daughter of Elizabeth and William Dimsdale of Poca.
Both Webster and Dimsdale will represent Putnam County in regional competition in March, where they will compete for a chance to attend the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
