Here are few things going on throughout the state during the remainder of August.
Aug. 21-23: Camp Barefoot 8 Music and Art Festival, Bartow
Camp Barefoot 8 is a three-day camping event featuring local, regional and national musical acts. The styles range from bluegrass, jazz, electronic, rock and reggae, just to name a few. CB8 also features the finest food, art and craft vendors, with many artists painting live to the music.
Aug. 23: Summersville Lake Lighthouse Festival, Summersville
Come celebrate West Virginia's only working lighthouse with activities and attractions that include live music, food vendors, games, prizes, antique car cruise-in, raffles, and locally produced arts and craft.
Aug. 23: 26th Annual Pasta Cook-off, Clarksburg
This pre-WV Italian Heritage Festival event is open to amateur and professional cooks. The event features entertainment, a hot pepper eating contest, homemade wine contest and canned pepper contest, as well as other activities throughout the day.
Aug. 28-31: 3rd Annual Hatfield McCoy GeoTrail, Williamson
Geocachers from all over the country visit on a regular basis throughout the year to complete the trail and earn their copy of the geocoin. However, this "Mega Geocaching Event" held every August on Labor Day Weekend is the best way to see and experience Hatfield-McCoy country. Register soon and secure your spot in this year's event.
Aug. 29-30: Point Pleasant River Museum's Tribute to the River, Point Pleasant
Activities and attractions include a line throw, cornhole contest with cash prizes, children's games, food, entertainment, and a sternwheel boat parade in the Ohio River.
Aug. 29-31: 36th Annual WV Italian Heritage Festival, Clarksburg
The West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival is free to the public and offers cultural events, special children's area, grand parade, three stages of ongoing entertainment, authentic Italian cuisine and fun and games for people of all ages.
Aug. 29-31: 40th Jackson's Mill Jubilee, Weston
Spend the day enjoying great food, handmade crafts, Kid's Land, fabulous music, Native American style dancing, antique tractors, antique engines, antique car show, quilt show, corn hole competition, Civil War activities and encampments, Hillbilly Zip Line, and a pie baking contest.
Aug. 29-31: Gathering at Sweet Creek, Mineral Wells
The Gathering at Sweet Creek is an old-time Appalachian music festival featuring musicians from West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri, Virginia and Australia. Come join us for a weekend filled with heritage music, stories and poetry.
Aug. 29-31: Jane Lew Firemen's Arts and Crafts Festival, Jane Lew
More than 200 contemporary and heritage crafters display and sell their wares. Products will include glass, wood, leather, jewelry, dolls, dried and silk flowers, baskets, ceramics, soaps, candles, paintings, honey, jams and jellies, and much more. Food vendors will also be available.
Aug. 29-31: The Wheeling Vintage Raceboat Regatta, Heritage Port, Wheeling
Come to the Regatta and see beautiful wooden hydroplanes and raceboats up close and watch as they run on the Ohio River at speeds between 60 and 140 mph! Learn how these boats were built; who the builders were; and the aerodynamics, engineering and physics of boat racing. A free boating safety and boat-building program will be offered to children ages 3-18 years.
Aug. 30: Get Down in the Gorge, Ace Adventure Resort, Minden
This All Day Beach Party features ziplines, waterslides and an inflatable floating bouncy heaven, followed by a concert featuring five bands - The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, The Wild Rumpus, Lawless Brown, Black King Coal and Groundhog Gravy.
Aug. 30-31: Apple Butter Weekend at Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park, Parkersburg
Observe first-hand as the Stillwell 4-H group makes apple butter in a copper kettle over an open fire. The finished product will be available to purchase.
Aug. 31: Cacapon Homecoming, Berkeley Springs
Festivities include music with multiple bands, food, door prizes, outdoor activities and lots of fun.
