Former NBC correspondent to speak at Scott Depot church
SCOTT DEPOT -- Teays Valley Church of God in Scott Depot is hosting a free dessert night for all people 55 and older at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 27.
The featured speaker will be Ed Rabel, a native of St. Albans, who is also a former correspondent with NBC. Rabel graduated from St. Alban's High School and the University of Charleston. He worked for WKLZ, a radio station in St. Alban's and then went to WCHS as the news firector. He was discovered by CBS and was a correspondent covering major hot spots and wars through the Vietnam War. He has been a correspondent in every major part of the world.
Rabel has done extensive coverage in South America and has been to Cuba more than 150 times. He has a great working relationship with Cuban leaders and has interviewed Fidel Castro several times. He also did extensive coverage of the South during the turbulent years of the late 1960's, and he interviewed Martin Luther King Jr. the night before he died. His last job was with NBC as a national security correspondent at the Pentagon. He is the author of 2 books, a two-time Emmy winner, and an adjunct at the University of Washington which was the Edward R. Murrow correspondent school. This past May he returned to Cuba with graduate students. Teays Valley Church of God is located at 4430 Teays Valley Road in Scott Depot, just east of exit 40 off I-64.
