News in brief: Hurricane Civic Chorus to perform at Hurricane Gazebo
HURRICANE -- The Hurricane Civic Chorus will join in the Independence Day activities by singing patriotic songs at the Hurricane Gazebo at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, a half-hour prior to the start of the parade.
The chorus is directed by Dr. Larry Stickler with Tom Minshall on piano and organ.
The Civic Chorus will accept new members in September, when it begins its 22nd year. Practices are held at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church in Hurricane.
Dues are $25 per semester. Auditions are not required.

Buffalo Alumni Banquet set for July 31
BUFFALO, W.Va. -- A Buffalo Alumni Banquet is planned for 6:30 p.m. until midnight on Friday, July 31 at Scarlet Oaks Country Club in Poca.
The cost is $26 per person, and reservations must be paid in advance.

NFL pro to host football camp in St. Albans
St. ALBANS -- An NFL pro will lead a football camp next weekend in St. Albans.
Jason Rader of the Atlanta Falcons will host the football camp on Saturday, July 11 at Crawford Field in St. Albans. The cost is $40 per child, which includes instruction, a camp T-shirt and an autographed 5-by-7-inch photo of Rader.
The camp will be held in two sessions: Session 1, for grades three through eight, will be from 9 a.m. until noon. Session II, for grades 9 through 12, will be from 1 until 4 p.m.

Dance school to offer story hour for children
BARBOURSVILLE -- Miracles in Motion Dance Academy is hosting free interactive story hour at the dance school at 10 a.m. Saturdays during the month of July.
Children of all ages are invited to discover the imaginative world of popular childrens literature through a variety of creative methods that may include song, dance and craft.

Putnam schools awarded funds for services
WINFIELD -- The annual County School District Application for the Federal Safe and Drug-Free Schools grant will be submitted to the West Virginia Department of Education for approval.
Putnam County Schools was awarded $32,603.40 of West Virginia's Title IV entitlement funds to provide services to students.

BUFFALO -- Volunteers are needed to decorate street posts in preparation for the Buffalo 4th of July Celebration.

Parks & Recreation to offer water aerobics
HURRICANE -- Putnam County Parks & Recreation will offer water aerobics classes at Valley (Wave Pool) Park.
Classes will start July 11 and continue through Aug. 15. Classes will be from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Saturdays and will be taught by certified instructor Julie Simon. The cost is $35.
