NITRO -- Two people were cited over the weekend and charged with selling alcohol to minors.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office and the West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Commission performed a joint, undercover sting operation as part of the sheriff's Preventing Underage Drinking Program. The undercover sting operations are conducted several times a year at various locations within Kanawha County.

During the most recent sting, Mandy Kennedy, 24, of Cross Lanes was cited for allegedly selling alcoholic beverages to a minor at the Cruz Thru Convenience Store in Nitro. Larry Smith, 59, of Nitro was also cited when he allegedly sold beer to a minor at the Sam's Citgo in Nitro.

The store clerks and businesses face possible fines through magistrate court, as well as sanctions from the West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Commission.
