HURRICANE, W.Va. -- Putnam County Parks and Recreation is now offering the community a new shelter area with all the perks to make summer activity planning a breeze.
The 80-by-50 foot shelter, which seats approximately 220, has been settled on the east side of the Valley Park property and offers amenities not previously available at the location.
Parks and Recreation Director Scott Williamson said the shelter's attached building houses not only a men's and women's restroom, but a full-sized kitchen suitable for catering activities.
The kitchen has a microwave, three-basin sink, two large preparation tables, a commercial grade refrigerator and freezer, and a 10 burner stove with two ovens.
Overlooking a stocked fishing pond and surrounded by walking trails, a playground area and soccer field, the site offers two large grilling sites and numerous trash receptacles. Though picnic tables currently occupy the shelter space, folding chairs are available for an alternate seating arrangement.
Williamson said the new shelter offers the community a prime option for family reunions, company picnics or outdoor weddings.
"It's in a remote area of the park, but still within easy walking distance of the wave pool and the Putt-Putt golf course. It's a beautiful shelter that allows you to enjoy the park as well," he said.
