Winfield High School senior Caleb Ashley signed up to play basketball for West Virginia Wesleyan where he will be majoring in business on Tuesday morning. He may also play baseball for the Bobcats.
Ashley averaged 21 points and 8.4 rebounds per game his senior year and finished his high school career with 1,184 points (10th place overall for Winfield High School).
While a junior at Winfield, Ashley was Second Team All-State, First Team All-Cardinal Conference and was voted onto the 2007 State Tournament All-Tournament Team, as well as the All-Kanawha Valley Second Team.
In his senior year, he was nominated for the McDonalds All-American Team, was voted First Team All-State and First Team All-Kanawha Valley. He was the sixth leading scorer in the state.
In baseball, Ashley was First Team All-Conference and Special Honorable Mention All-State as a junior and was First Team All-Cardinal Conference in his senior year.
Ashley chose West Virginia Wesleyan after being recruited by Morehead State, Fairmont State, Alderson Broaddus and West Virginia Tech. Other state schools showed interest, including Potomac State.
Caleb will be joining Lady Generals track stars Emily Stewart, Kelsey Spang and Morganne Bennett at Wesleyan in the fall.
