Pinch Reunion to be held Aug. 9-11

Aug. 09, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

PINCH, W.Va. -- Want some old-timey socializing and reminiscing?

A year in the works and with many activities scheduled, a revitalized Pinch Reunion will be held for the 112th consecutive year Aug. 9-11 in Pinch, W.Va.

A community event founded by Judge William Wertz that originally included civic debates, music, and various community events, the reunion hasn't changed that much and still features music, food, fellowship and fun for the whole family, according to a news release from organizers.

"We are so thankful to each volunteer who has given his time, talent, and finances over all these years to make this an amazing yearly event," Melissa Starcher, co-chair of the Pinch Reunion Committee, said in a news release. "Our committee is honored to have been handed the reigns of responsibility of coordinating such a historic community event and is excited about this year's gathering."

The weekend will be filled with a variety of activities for all ages such as a parade, car show, 5k run, pie baking contest, pageant, games for kids and food. Music will take place at the Wigwam Friday night at 7:30 p.m. with the bluegrass group Up the Creek and the "Earl of Elkview." Again at the wigwam, free Saturday music begins at noon with a lineup that includes Steve Clever Siders, the Davisson Brothers at 1 p.m., Mark Bates, The Needful Things, Donnie Smith, Scott Straight (with special guest Kelsie Antill) concluding with a concert by the Molly Moochers at 8 p.m.

Sunday festivities are hosted on a rotation basis and will take place this year at Heritage Baptist Church in Pinch. Services open to all will begin at 11 a.m. followed by a spaghetti dinner. Music will begin at 1 p.m with the following groups scheduled to perform: Nick Naylor Ministries, the Warren Family Quartet, Gretchen Ramsey Addison, Andrew Boothe, Heritage Baptist Praise & Worship, Hearts Unworthy.

"Many have worked hard and we are sure it will be a great weekend on many fronts," Starcher said in the release. "We hope people from across West Virginia will come out and enjoy all that is being offered this year."
