Church to host holiday service

November 20, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

SCOTT DEPOT -- St. John's United Methodist Church, located at Scott Depot, will host this year's Community Thanksgiving Service of the Teays Valley Ministerial Association. The multi-denominational evening of fellowship, worship and giving thanks is slated to begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24.

This year's service will offer something new: a worship time geared toward children and youth. The children's sermon will be presented by Chad Pauley, from The Depot, Christ fellowship and Wendy Watts from the Scott Depot Church of God. They both serve their churches as children's pastors.

The evening message will be delivered by the Rev. Bethany Anne (Williams) Carr, associate pastor to Youth and their Families, at the Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene. Carr , who has been preaching since she was 14 years old, attended Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn., and Mount Vernon Nazarene in Ohio in Pastoral Ministry and Counseling. She has served on staff at the Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene for three years. Her motto as a young girl has been "God does not call the qualified, but qualifies the call."

Carr graduated from Teays Valley Christian School, and she was a West Virginia State officer and a national officer in the Future Business Leaders of America. She also served as the president of Phi Beta Lambda for the state of Tennessee Colleges and Universities. She ranked eighth in the nation in public speaking while in college at the Phi Beta Lambda National Conference in Nashville.

The evening will also feature music directed by Fern Forsythe and the worship team and musicians from the community.

The Rev. Cheryl Winter, president of the Teays Valley Ministerial Association, has planned and worked with area ministers to make this evening a time of unity and peace for all. There will be an offering received that will support the Teays Valley Ministerial Association's various ministries. Each person is asked to bring non-perishable food for the Community Cupboard.
