Community invited to "Shadows of Love" Christmas program

Dec. 14, 2012 @ 10:45 AM

HURRICANE — Community members are invited to a unique retelling of the Christmas story when Mount Vernon Baptist Church presents “Shadows of Love” at three different churches during the coming weeks.

Described as a “silhouette drama,” the script was written by the Rev. Ron McClung, who is the senior pastor at Mount Vernon Baptist. The Mount Vernon Baptist Choir is under the direction of Rodney LeGrand.

“This is a dramatic, multi-sensory presentation of the Christmas story, from creation to the flight to Egypt,” McClung said in a news release. “Attendees will hear, sense, and see the story in a unique way. We have worked on a silhouette drama that shows the incarnation of God into this world, using a variety of music, color and narration.”

McClung said he wrote “Shadows of Love” 10 years ago, and it was originally intended as an Easter drama, and he later modified it to reflect the Christmas season. It has been performed at churches in Kentucky and Ohio, where McClung previously held pastorates.

Performances of “Shadows of Love” are planned for:

  • 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Judson Baptist Church on Bill’s Creek Road

  • 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, and 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church

  • 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, at Main Street Baptist Church, Point Pleasant.

“This is a great opportunity to invite family and friends to share the joy of His love through the journey of ‘Shadows of Love,’” McClung said.
