Putnam County Rotary 'tying the knot' for military support group

November 06, 2009 @ 12:15 AM

POCA -- Putnam County Rotarians will offer financial and physical support for 200 troops in Iraq at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at Wellington's in Poca.

Rotarians will tie knots on fleece blankets for children whose parents are serving in Iraq. They will also collect funds to make a $250 donation for "Operation Fellowship and Fleece," a project of the Family Readiness Group Bravo Troop 1-150th ARS.

The blankets will be given to the children as a gift during the Christmas season.

Featured speaker Mandy Fisher, vice president of the Family Readiness Group, will share at the club meeting about what the auxiliary has been able to do since their family members were deployed and what they hope to do to celebrate these soldiers when they return in 2010.

Putnam County Club President Chet Marshall commented, "Not only does our club want to have a presence in this community, but we also want our presence to be seen in places where it's needed even more, like on the frontlines in Iraq. It's our pleasure to say 'thanks' to a group of people who are representing our country and to their families for their sacrifice. They are honoring us. This is a small way we can honor them."

The community is invited to the luncheon meeting this Tuesday at Wellington's to come help cut and tie the blankets.
