Students help promote physical activity
On Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Lakeview Elementary School in Hurricane, the entire school steps out back to participate in an attempt to set a JAM World Record.
Purchase this photoHURRICANE -- At around 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, students at Lakeside Elementary School exited their classrooms and took a stance on the school lawn.
No, it wasn't a protest, but it was a demonstration, of sorts. The students were joining with JAM World Record to help promote fun physical activity by taking an exercise break with the JAMmin' Minute.
JAM world record is a national physical activity movement that provides a fun way for kids to lead the way in raising awareness about the importance of making physical activity a daily habit, as well as ensuring that kids learn healthy habits at a young age and that schools have access to physical education programs.
The Lakeside students were taught some moves by physical education teacher Cody Pyle, then they all "jammed" in unison at the appointment time, along with thousands of other students around West Virginia and the world.
