Putnam fair kicks off July 12

ELEANOR, W.Va. - The Putnam County Fair kicks off in mid-July and offers a variety of events from a 10K run to pageants and more.

Held at the Ernest Page Jr. Fairgrounds in Eleanor, the 30th annual event is scheduled to begin Saturday, July 12, and end on Saturday, July 19. Pre-fair events the weekend prior include a 10K run and three-mile walk starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 5, at the County Pool in Eleanor, and a Putnam County Fair Queen Contest and Teen Miss Pageant at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 6, starting at Wellington's of Scarlet Oaks in Poca.

The ticket options are:

DAILY TICKETS (purchased daily at the gate): $7 all ages five and up (kids under age five are free).

FAMILY DAY: Sunday, July 13. $5 per person ages five and up.

SENIOR CITIZEN'S DAY: Tuesday, July 15, only. $6 (must have Mountaineer Card).

SEASON TICKETS: All Season Tickets $25 (ages five and up).

Prices allow you to enjoy all stage shows, fair exhibits and ride the carnival rides but do not include inflatable non-mechanical rides. There are height limitations on some rides. Carnival games and food are not included.

Season tickets must be purchased before the fair opens or on opening day at the gate. Putnam County 4-H members and the Eleanor Foodland are selling tickets. For more information, call 304-586-4001 or visit the Web site at www.Putnamcountyfair-wv.com.

Saturday, July 5

8 a.m.: 10K Run/3-Mile Walk (County Pool)

Sunday, July 6

2 p.m.: Putnam County Fair Queen and Teen Queen Pageants at Wellington's of Scarlet Oaks (open to the public)

Friday, July 11

4 p.m. to 7 p.m.: 4-H Project Exhibits, 4-H Club Educational & club scrapbook exhibits, agriculture, home arts to be registered at Exhibit Hall. Register 4-H Livestock at barn. Register 4-H Rabbits, market rabbits and open rabbits at rabbit hutch.

6:30 p.m.: Rehearsal - All "Miss" Contestants (ampitheater)

8 p.m.: 4-H Livestock Exhibitors and Parents' Meeting (Mandatory) at show/sale arena.

Saturday, July 12

8 a.m.: Gates Open

8 a.m.: 4-H Horse Show Registration

9 a.m.: 4-H Horse Show

9 a.m. to noon: 4-H Project Exhibits judging and Agriculture judging Exhibit Hall (closed)

Noon: Official Opening of the 2008 Fair

Noon: Carnival opens (closed from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. for dinner)

Noon to- 9 p.m.: Exhibit Hall open

Noon: Rabbit judging (4-H and Open). Exhibitors must be present.

Noon: Line-up for Little Miss Contests (show/sale arena)
